INTERCELLULAR MATRIX

INTERCELLULAR (INTERSTITIAL) LIPIDS
Located between the cells in the epidermis, Intercellular Lipids consist of : Fatty Acids (Stearic and Palmitic), Sterols (Soya Sterol), Ceramide III and Phospholipids.

Intercellular Lipids are both "hydrophobic"(water-repelling) and "lipophilic"(oil-loving) materials that help create the all important barrier function of the skin - the skin's first line of defense against assault. |

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS (EFAs)
Located primarily in the epidermis, EFA's - that are important to the natural function of the skin are: Linoleic and Linolenic Acid

Essential Fatty Acids are necessary to the natural function of the body. Dry skin is known clinically as "Essential Fatty Acid Deficiency". Along with the Intercellular (Interstitial) Lipids, EFA's play a major role in inhibiting moisture loss from the skin. |

NON-IONIC, NON-ETHOXYLATED EMULSIFIERS
All emulsifiers used in the Tellurian product line are mild and botanically (plant) derived from renewable resources. These Non-Ionic, Non-Ethoxylated Emulsifiers include: Sorbitan Stearate, Sucrose Cocoate, Myristyl Glucose, Cetearyl Alcohol and Cetearyl Glucose.

Emulsifiers used in creams and lotions generally fall into two categories - Anionic or "soap-based" emulsions are formed by reacting a fatty acid with an alkaline material such as Sodium Hydroxide or Triethanolamine. This is considered antiquated and has a higher potential for irritation; Non-Ionic Emulsifiers are a more contemporary and elegant form of emulsions. Although it is more stable and a less irritating formula, it does have drawbacks - Non-Ionic Emulsifiers are generally Ethoxylated. The Ethoxylation process produces Dioxanes - which are known carcinogens. (e.g., PEG-100 Distearate, Polysorbates (20, 60-80), Steareth-2). |

LIGHT DIFFUSING MINERALS
Light Diffusing Minerals, Mica and Silica, are included in The Intercellular Eye Treatment.

Natural Light Diffusing Minerals diffuse light and create optical "blurring", creating an optical illusion on the surface of the skin. This effect helps reduce the visible appearance of fine lines and wrinkles immediately upon applications. |

FORMALDEHYDE DONOR-FREE PRESERVATIVES
All Tellurian products are formulated without "Formaldehyde Donors" such as Diazolidinyl Urea, Imidazolidinyl Urea, DMDM Hydantoin and Quartemium-15.

All commercially produced personal care products require some form of preservation to protect them from bacteria, fungus and mold (bacterial and microbial contamination - helping to keep them safe for use. Some of the most commonly used preservations are "formaldehyde donors". Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen |
All Tellurian products are formulated using preservatives that are from the most natural sources available and are mild and proven safe. Tellurian does not use any "formaldehyde donor" preservatives in any of our products. Tellurian preservatives are:

PARABEN-FREE PRESERVATIVES
Parabens are a group of food-grade, synthetic preservatives (Butyl, Proyl, Methyl, Ethyl) commonly used in beauty products. They are the most widely used preservatives in the beauty industry, and it is estimated that they are contained in more than 90% of all cosmetic products. Parabens, when used effectively, are more effective and less irritating than many other preservatives available for use in this industry. |
All commercially produced personal care products require some form of preservation. Parabens ensure a long shelf life and inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast, mold and fungus. They protect products from many forms of contamination, keeping products safe for use. The scientific community, the FDA and the American Cancer Society have stated that Parabens are safe for long term use in cosmetic products. Several studies have shown some preliminary evidence that Parabens may influence breast cancer and reproductive abnormalities - but the results have been inconclusive. More studies and testing must be done to make any definitive statements. |

SULFATE-FREE
Sulfates are ingredients that are used in heath and beauty products primarily as cleaners/detergents and foaming agents. Some of the frequently used sulfates are Sodium Lauryl (SLS), Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. |
The FDA classifies Sulfates as irritants. The American Cancer Society and the FDA have said that sulfates used in personal care products are safe for long-term use are not know carcinogens. However, we chosen to use the safest and mildest surfactants (cleansing agents) possible. |

PHTHALATE-FREE
Phthalates are a family of compounds made from alcohols and Phthalte Anhydride. They are oily, colorless, odorless liquids that do not evaporate readily, and are often used in fragrances and nail polish. |
Although generally considered safe by the scientific community, studies now suggest that Phthalates may cause birth defects, breast cancer, and an increase in asthma. |
